Close proximity view of a Richland "A" house. "In 1943, the United States Government contracted Gustav Albin Pehrson, an engineer and architect from Spokane, WA, to design the Hanford Engineer Works (HEW) Village. Pehrson labeled the house floor plans by letters, hence the common references to the historical homes as “Alphabet,” “ABC,” or “Letter” houses" (http://reachstories.org/). Noted in caption, "A dwelling built during the war in Richland, home of the Hanford Atomic Workers."
