Du Pont designed, built and operated the tremendous plant at Hanford, Wash., during World War II, and it was here that one of the essential materials for atomic bombs, a new chemical element called plutonium, was mass produced for the first time. It was one of the greatest single industrial accomplishments in the history of the world.<br />
