1948 Richland Flood
Flood; Floods; Erosion protection works; Safety; Bodies of water; Disasters; Bridges
Photo of debris from 1948 Richland Flood. A tree is on the right and a large building (probably the Desert Inn) is in the background. Also included is 7cm X 12cm print of the same image. Noted on the back of the print, "13[B?]47." In 1948, the Columbia River experienced heavy flooding. Although the most well-known effects of this natural disaster occurred at Vanport, Oregon, the flood waters also rose in Richland and the Tri-Cities, leading to the construction of earthen dikes--such as the one along George Washington Way in Richland.
